Savanna Portage State Park

So, I'm deep into my summer of not working and we had a few open days.  Therefore, Sarah and I sat down and decided to go camping.  The question: Where?  We thought about going someplace south, but rather wanted to be like all other cool Minnesotan's and "go north."  As we started to look around, we almost decided to go to a state park that we've already been to, but we've never done that, so in the end we bypassed those.  After much thought and research, we decided to go way north and way into the middle of nowhere - even more north and more rural than McGreggor.  We left last Tuesday and found only a few other campers there (yes, even though there were over 60 camping sites, literally I think were were one of three).  It was great!  We had the entire state park to ourselves.  We had the play park to ourselves, the beach to ourselves, the picnic area to ourselves and the fishing pier to ourselves.  We spent three days there.  We hiked at a number of areas, had a great dutch oven dinner in the rain, and played a lot of football, horseshoes, and badminton.

Here is our cute Eli on one of our hikes around the beaver pond.

Here are the rest of us (well, except Sarah).  Ethan had a hard time with the bugs on this hike.

The sandbox right next to our campsite was a hit.  Needless to say, Ande experienced many "heavy load"'s.

This one is specifically for Savanna Childs.  This is our kids standing in front of Savanna Lake.

How cute!  Ethan took this picture.  Didn't think he could do that well!
Believe it or not there is a continental divide in this state park!  Here water on the east flows into the East Savanna River, then to Lake Superior, then to the Atlantic Ocean.  Water on the west flows to the West Savanna River, then to the Mississippi River, then to the Gulf of Mexico.  This overlook provided a great visual for the kids.  Yes, Eli is smiling and that is the best smile he can do for the camera.

This was just one of our fun summer activities.  More to come soon.
